South Africa Appoints New Coaching Staff for ICC World Cup 2024
Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named Shukri Conrad as the new all format head coach, assigning him oversight of the Test, ODI, and T20 teams until the 2027 World Cup, which South Africa will co host. Conrad (58) previously coached the Proteas’ Test team from January 2023, steering them to a spot in the World Test Championship final, and led their T20 side to the final of the 2024.
He succeeds Rob Walter, who stepped down from his limited overs role in April 2025 for personal reasons. Conrad said it was “unbelievably special” to lead across formats, expressing pride in South Africa’s white ball talent and a strong foundation to build.
CSA’s Director of National Teams, Enoch Nkwe, praised Conrad’s leadership, noting his role in fostering identity and structure in the Test setup and expecting him to bring the same clarity to white ball formats. Conrad’s debut assignment will be a T20 tri series in July featuring Zimbabwe and New Zealand, following the WTC final in June at Lord’s.
This move is part of CSA’s broader strategic overhaul, which includes reinstating a National Convenor of Selection to streamline team composition across formats. With the 2024 World Cup underway and major events aheadincluding the T20 World Cup 2026 and ICC Champions Trophythe unified coaching structure is designed to maximize consistency, performance, and long term strategic alignment.
