ICC Announces Prize Money Structure for World Cup 2024
In a landmark move, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the prize money structure for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, introducing the highest ever prize pool for the men’s tournament and achieving gender parity for the first time in cricket history.
The Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will feature a total prize pool of $11.25 million, with the champions set to take home $2.45 million. The runners up will receive $1.28 million, while the two losing semi finalists will earn $787,500 each. Teams reaching the Super 8 stage will be awarded $382,500, and those eliminated earlier will still receive a substantial share. Additionally, each match victory in the group and Super 8 stages comes with a $31,154 bonus.
For the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, the prize money has been elevated to $7.958 million, bringing it on par with the men’s tournament. The winning team will earn $2.34 million, and runners up $1.17 million, with the same bonus structure for match victories. This marks a historic step toward equality, as cricket becomes the only major global team sport to offer equal prize money for men’s and women’s World Cups.
ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice praised the move, calling it a “transformational moment” for the sport. The decision reflects the ICC’s long term commitment to gender equity and the growing popularity of women’s cricket.
This announcement sets a new benchmark for fairness and progress in international sports.
